Welcome to Day 9 of our 21 Day Yoga Challenge. If you are just tuning in, the 21 Day Yoga Challenge is to simply set the intention to do at least 5 minutes of meditation and 5 minutes of yoga a day. I’m here to support you with yoga videos, audio meditations, tips and recipes for healthy living.
Today’s focus is Matsyasana (mat-see-AHS-anna), fish pose. This pose has a plethora of benefits including:
- reduces fatigue
- reduces anxiety
- reduces constipation
- improves posture
- stimulates the organs in the body
- feeds the thyroid and parathyroid
- increases lung capacity
- opens the heart, shoulders, spine and neck – stretching the muscles
- releases tension in the belly
…And I could go on with the benefits. You wouldn’t want to do this pose if you have a serious back or neck injury. Also, this pose is somewhat stimulating, so it’s not the best choice before going to bed.
I have several suggestions and “tricks” that you may not have seen elsewhere. Take a look at the video.
Namaste,
Suzanne
Thank you; I will try doing a fish face next time!
What was also helpful for me was what you said about the head. So many times I have heard ‘come onto the crown of your head’ and have tried to aim for that but felt it was not something I could manage. What felt right for me was to be more on the back of my head, so it was good to hear that is where I should be!
